Join Auckland Council's Hydrology and Environmental Data Management team for a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience supporting one of the region's largest environmental monitoring programmes. What you’ll be doing during your internship Based in Auckland City's centre but working across the region, you will spend most of your time in the field (3–4 days per week, 40 hours per week). Your duties include: Collecting critical information on rainfall, river flows, lake levels, groundwater, and water quality. Assisting experienced hydrologists and environmental scientists in operating and maintaining monitoring networks. Performing field measurements, instrument calibration, troubleshooting, and site maintenance. Supporting data‑management activities and ensuring high‑quality information is ready for analysis and reporting. Exploring a wide range of Auckland's natural environments and gaining insight into how environmental data informs water resource management and decision‑making. He kōrero mōu: About you You are well suited to working in a team but can undertake tasks independently and proactively where required. You have a passion for the environment and managing and analysing data, and you enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions. Your key attributes include: A strong commitment to health and safety. Competent swimming skills and confidence working in or near water. Excellent communication and organisational abilities. Adaptability to varied field environments and a proactive attitude. To be eligible for this opportunity Enrolled in a degree for environmental/biological/natural science or a related field and in the penultimate or final year of study. Preference for students completing their BSc and intending to progress to a PGDipSci, BSc (Hons) or MSc. Eligible to work in New Zealand full‑time from 23 November 2026 to 19 February 2027. Hold a clean, full New Zealand driver's licence and be prepared to drive Utes. Ability to swim confidently and safely, as some activities may involve working in or around water. Current first aid certificate, day skippers and/or water safety qualification would be beneficial but are not essential.
