About the role The Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS) team delivers a range of inpatient and community services totangatawhaiora in the Waitaha Rohe (Canterbury district). The Canterbury Regional Forensic Psychiatric Service assesses and treats people who have acted violently in the context of a mental disorder or may be at risk of doing so, and also provides inpatient treatment for prisoners. Our service philosophy prioritises whanaungatanga – acknowledging the centrality of whānau in our work and the lives of tangatawhaiora. Awhina and manaaki our tangatawhaiora and whānau. Connect and engage with tangatawhaiora to understand their cultural requirements through assessments (Te Arotakenga – cultural assessments). Work alongside and guide our qualified professionals to be culturally responsive. Tautoko (support) our kaimahi (staff) in understanding Tikanga Māori. Provide on‑call support as part of the role. 40hour per week (1.0FTE) – permanent full‑time position. Qualifications Strong knowledge of TeAoMāori (TeReoMāori and its tikanga) and ability to apply these values when connecting with others. Natural ability to build and nurture relationships. Reflective communication practices and a holistic view when caring for others. NZ driver’s licence is essential.
