Job Description
About the role We are looking for a Principal Advisor to join the DCE Tech and Data Office. This highly influential advisory role will provide strategic advice, analysis and support across a complex technology, digital and data portfolio. Working closely with senior leaders, you will help shape strategic direction, align priorities, support organisational performance, and provide insights that enable high‑quality decision‑making across the Group. You will also play a key role in the development and quality assurance of Board and Executive governance submissions, providing trusted advice that supports robust governance and informed decision‑making. Salary $117,787 – $152,430 (based on experience). Benefits include a 9% superannuation contribution (no mandatory employee contribution) and optional life and income protection insurance. About you Significant experience as a Principal Advisor, Executive Office, Chief of Staff, Strategy, Transformation or other senior advisory role, providing trusted advice to executive leaders on complex organisational issues. Proven track record of influencing decision‑making at executive and senior leadership level. Strong analytical capability, synthesising complex information, identifying risks and opportunities, and developing practical recommendations. Experience working within technology, digital, data, or transformation environments. Sound understanding of technology and data functions, enabling strategic advice without needing to be a technical specialist. Exceptional written communication skills, including preparing high‑quality governance submissions, executive briefings, reports and strategic advice for executive leaders and Boards. Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills, building credibility and trusted relationships quickly. Strong judgement, initiative and the ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities. Collaborative, curious and outcomes‑focused approach. Must hold New Zealand work rights at the time of application.
