Anatomical Pathology – Whangarei Hospital Permanent full‑time position, working 40 hours per week. Cytology‑focused role with opportunity to maintain and develop specialist skills alongside Histology. About the Role We are seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Laboratory Scientist or Cytology‑trained professional to join our Anatomical Pathology team, with a strong focus on supporting and growing Cytology (non‑gynaecological) services. This role is ideally suited to either a Cytology‑experienced scientist/screener wishing to maintain and utilise their specialist skills, or a Histology Scientist with a strong interest in developing cytology capability within a supported environment. For applicants without prior cytology screening experience, a structured development pathway will be supported, with progression based on training, competency, and service requirements. You will contribute to Cytology workflows in line with your experience and scope of practice, including specimen preparation, adequacy assessment and screening (where appropriately trained and credentialed). In addition, you will perform key Histology functions including specimen receipt, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining. About You NewZealand Registered and licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist with a current APC Practical experience in a Histology laboratory, including microtomy and staining techniques Demonstrated experience in Cytology (specimen preparation, adequacy assessment and/or screening) Strong interest and commitment to developing cytology capability Work experience with Laboratory Information system Knowledge of laboratory quality systems and accreditation standards Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and patient care Effective communication and teamwork skills Desirable Previous experience within a Healthcare setting Willingness to maintain and expand skills across both Histology and Cytology Experience in immunohistochemistry (IHC) Working at Health New Zealand Health NewZealand|TeWhatuOra is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of NewZealand.
