About the Role Consultant Renal Physician – Waikato, Health NewZealand – Te WhatuOra – Hamilton, NewZealand. This is a full‑time fixed‑term position (11months) at Waikato Hospital, starting in November2026. The role provides a rewarding mix of inpatient, outpatient and regional service delivery, together with participation in the on‑call roster. The team offers a collaborative culture of innovation, continuous learning and strong emphasis on patient care, education and research. About the Service Waikato Hospital hosts one of NewZealand’s largest renal services. It comprises an inpatient renal ward, an acute dialysis unit and the recently commissioned Midland Regional Renal Centre. The service delivers all aspects of renal medicine—excluding acute kidney transplantation—while promoting a strong home‑based treatment philosophy. It supports one of Australia’s largest peritoneal dialysis populations, extensive home haemodialysis programmes and regional transplant follow‑up services. The Renal Service operates across Waikato, Lakes, Bay of Plenty and Tairāwhiti, providing specialist care through a hub‑and‑spoke model to a population of over a million. Team & Opportunities You will join a multidisciplinary team that includes: 8 Renal Physicians 5 Registrars 2 Senior House Officers Experienced and dedicated nursing and allied health team For clinicians with prior experience and interest, opportunities exist to undertake interventional nephrology procedures, including renal biopsy, tunnelled dialysis catheter insertion and Tenckhoff catheter insertion. The service also hosts a busy clinical research unit that explores emerging and novel therapies. About You You are a qualified Renal Physician who is passionate about delivering high‑quality care and working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
