Middlemore Hospital – Part Time Permanent Role (0.9 FTE) Health NZ Counties Manukau is a dynamic and progressive organisation at the forefront of innovative health care delivery within the New Zealand Public Health Sector. Our main sites are Middlemore Hospital, Kidz First Hospital and Manukau Health Park. We are part of Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora, the national health service that oversees local, district, regional and national levels of care. About the Role The Critical Care Complex unit at Middlemore Hospital houses both the Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit. It provides specialist care for patients with acute, potentially reversible, life‑threatening conditions such as major accidents, burns injuries, spinal cord injuries, severe infections or those recovering from major surgery. The Health Care Assistant in Critical Care maintains a safe, clean and well‑prepared clinical environment, supporting registered nurses in bedside stocking, equipment cleaning and preparation of patient spaces. The role also assists with patient repositioning, transfers and mobility to promote comfort, safety and wellbeing. Responsibilities Replenish bedside stock and maintain inventory of critical care supplies. Clean and disinfect equipment and patient spaces in accordance with infection prevention and control standards. Assist registered nurses with patient repositioning, transfers and mobility activities. Support patient comfort, safety and wellbeing through practical, patient–focused interventions. Prioritise tasks effectively and communicate efficiently with the broader team. Qualifications 2+ years of Health Care Assistant experience in NewZealand. Level4 NewZealand Health Care Assistant certificate with at least 1 year of experience, or; Level3 NewZealand Health Care Assistant certificate with at least 2 years of experience, or equivalent as assessed. Excellent communication skills. Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with patients and team members. Why Join Us?
