Job summary Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Location: Christchurch, New Zealand Job Category: Consulting and Strategy Key responsibilities Drive strategic advice influencing regulatory outcomes Help protect and enhance Canterbury’s environment Lead the development of high‑quality, evidence‑based policy and design advice Apply strategy, policy and design thinking to complex environmental and regulatory challenges Work across the organisation to connect regulatory settings, operating models, delivery priorities and outcomes Partner with iwi, government and other stakeholders to shape practical and durable approaches Monitor progress towards strategic goals and identify where regulatory systems need adjustment Project‑manage complex, high‑risk strategic initiatives that require cross‑organisational alignment Co‑ache and support capability across the Strategy & Planning group and the wider organisation Required experience and qualifications At least 8 years’ experience in strategy, policy or advisory roles Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical capability Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Strong background in large, complex or regulated environments Experience leading programmes or strategic initiatives Ability to coach and uplift capability across teams A relevant tertiary qualification (preferably postgraduate) is essential About Environment Canterbury Environment Canterbury is a regional council responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land.
