Job Description

Salary: $111,098 - $138,028 plus KiwiSaver. Permanent or 12‑month secondment opportunity. Locations: Wellington or Christchurch. Role Overview Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in the building regulatory system. Use evidence and analysis to identify opportunities to improve system performance and support evidence‑based decision‑making. Identify opportunities to strengthen regulatory stewardship and improve system‑level outcomes. Lead and coordinate evaluation activities, managing relationships and contracts with external evaluation providers. Build strong relationships across MBIE, government and the wider building sector to support reporting, monitoring and evaluation activity. Communicate with confidence, using excellent written and verbal communication skills to influence decisions and convey complex ideas clearly to project teams, governance groups, Ministers and stakeholders. Qualifications Strong experience with procurement and contract management of outsourced service provision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences, including Ministers. Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methodologies; ability to combine storytelling with qualitative and quantitative insights. Experience with, or ability to learn, reporting tools such as Power BI. Good understanding of the public sector, including the Ministry's role and government processes. Legal right to live and work in New Zealand and ability to satisfy the Ministry's security clearance requirements. Knowledge of or understanding of the building regulatory system in New Zealand is an advantage, but not a requirement.
