Registered Nurse - Post Anaesthesia Care Unit

Location Wellington Hospital Contract Permanent Full‑time, Rostered and Rotating Role Overview To provide general anaesthetic, local anaesthetic, and monitored sedation recovery to patients (adults and paediatric), and discharge to Second Stage Recovery day ward, or one of the main wards. To preceptor and mentor students where appropriate. The PACU RN will work closely within a large multi-disciplinary team, forming working relationships with operating theatre RNs and support staff, anaesthesiologists, anaesthetic technicians, surgical registrars and consultants, and many other allied health representatives. Supporting change implementation is an important aspect of this role and the PACU RN will be expected to participate in auditing and other quality initiatives as part of post‑anaesthesia and/or anaesthesia. About the Team / Service Location The Wellington Hospital PACU comprises approximately 45 staff made up of permanent and casual staff that are providing excellent care to post‑operative patients. We deal with all major and minor types of surgery, except cardiac. Qualifications PACU experience preferred Surgical experience will be considered At least 2 years RN experience Must be able to work as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment Able to make decisions quickly NZ Resuscitation Council certification preferred Ability to potentially work with Covid‑positive patients in the theatre/recovery environment Must be able to do rostered and rotating 10‑hour shifts Commitments Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'.
