Environmental Monitoring Intern

Summer Internship Programme (23-Nov – 19-Feb) Paid 12‑week programme at a Living Wage rate of $29.90 per hour, offering hands‑on experience and developmental support. Work on real projects that shape Tāmaki Makaurau and improve outcomes for Aucklanders. Contribute to a sustainable environment for a diverse future while honoring the past. He angitūtanga: The opportunity Our Environmental Monitoring Unit monitors compliance with resource consents to avoid, remedy or mitigate any adverse effects a project may have on the environment. You will shadow staff, gaining exposure to high‑risk and complex projects, and handle a work packet of lower‑risk sites independently. You’ll be placed in one of our five regional teams in a positive, supportive environment where you’ll learn, grow, and contribute. Many of our former interns have returned to begin their careers. What you’ll be doing during your internship Engage in meaningful work and learn from experts. Experience Auckland Council’s culture, build technical and soft skills and explore future career pathways. You’ll receive mentorship, networking, and support from the internship whānau. He kōrero mōu: About you Enthusiastic about learning how national and local government environmental legislation is implemented to ensure responsible projects and activities across Auckland. Motivated to gain practical experience in environmental impacts of development. Student studying BSc or BPlan (or equivalent) in environmental/resource management. You must: Be in your second‑to‑last year of a relevant bachelor’s degree or continuing into a master’s degree programme. Be eligible to work in New Zealand full‑time from 23-Nov-2026 to 19-Feb-2027.
