\n About the role and team\n

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral are looking for a specialist ophthalmologist to join our service providing specialist secondary care to the region.

\n

This full‑time (1FTE) position is suitable for an experienced or newly qualified specialist.

\n

The successful applicant will be a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a sub‑specialty interest; any sub‑specialty interest except vitreoretinal surgery will be considered.

Responsibilities\n

\n
• Provide specialist secondary care services to the region.
\n
• Supervise registrars and teach University of Otago Medical School trainee interns.
\n
• Coorperate in local and sub‑regional ophthalmic service provision.
\n
• Support multidisciplinary care and provide primary health care support.
\n

Team Composition\n

\n
• Senior Medical Officer team comprising four experienced consultant ophthalmologists.
\n
• Three registrars (one RANZCO vocational trainee), ophthalmic clinic nurses (including extended practice roles), an orthoptist, ophthalmic technicians, and visiting optometrists.
\n

Technology and Facilities\n

Our service is well resourced with OCT, Argon retinal laser, YAG laser, Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), cyclodiode laser, Centurion phacoemulsification and Pentacam.

Qualifications\n

• Eligible for vocational registration in Ophthalmology with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
\n
• Demonstrated clinical, management and teaching skills.
\n
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
\n
