Humankind are partnering with Echelon to recruit a Health Safety & Assurance Lead to join their Wellington team on a 12 month fixed term contract.

\n

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of health and safety governance, assurance, risk, and Joint Venture oversight within New Zealand and Australia’s energy sector.

About the role\n

Reporting to the General Counsel, you'll lead Echelon's internal health and safety governance framework and provide assurance oversight across our non-operated asset portfolio.

\n

You’ll work closely with our Executive Team, Board, Asset Managers, Joint Venture operators and external stakeholders to ensure risks are understood, obligations are met, and health and safety remains a visible and valued part of how we work.

Key responsibilities include:\n

\n
• Driving the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Echelon's HSE Management System.
\n
• Developing and maintaining business continuity, crisis management and emergency response plans.
\n
• Leading health and safety governance, reporting, risk management and assurance activities.
\n
• Supporting incident investigations, corrective action management and continuous improvement initiatives.
\n
• Assisting Asset Managers with HSE audits, management reviews, action tracking and assurance activities.
\n
• Reviewing operator performance, incidents, assurance evidence and audit findings across Echelon's Joint Venture assets.
\n
• Preparing clear, concise reporting and insights for the Executive Team and Board.
\n
• Supporting a practical, positive health and safety culture across the organisation.
\n

About you\n

You’ll bring a combination of technical health and safety capability, sound judgement, and the confidence to challenge constructively and influence others.

Ideally you'll have:\n

\n
• A tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, Engineering, Risk Management, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
\n
• Experience in a Health & Safety, Risk, Assurance, Governance, Compliance or related advisory role.
\n
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand and Australian health and safety legislation and best practice.
\n
• Experience developing and maintaining HSE systems, policies and risk frameworks.
\n
• Experience supporting audits, investigations and assurance activities.
\n
• Strong reporting and communication skills, including experience preparing information for senior leaders or Boards.
\n
• The ability to build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
\n
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
\n
• Experience with any of the following sectors is highly desirable – Energy, Infrastructure, Utilities, Engineering, Resources, Construction, Joint Venture Environments.
\n
• A current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one) is desirable.
\n

Location and travel\n

This role is based in Wellington and is primarily office-based.

\n

There will be occasional travel to operational sites, Joint Venture assets (in New Zealand and Australia), audits, assurance reviews, and industry events, so you’ll need to be comfortable spending some time in the field when required.
