Cultural Support Coordinator - Planning, Funding and Outcomes

About the Role As a Cultural Support Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting Asian and ethnic clients and their whānau to access culturally safe, equitable, and person-centred healthcare. Working closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams, you will provide cultural advice, coordinate support services, conduct socio-cultural assessments, and help clients navigate the New Zealand health system. You will advocate for clients, facilitate communication between health professionals and families, and contribute to improving health outcomes for diverse communities. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will work across hospital and community settings, supporting clinical and family meetings, contributing to health promotion initiatives, providing cultural insights to clinicians and service teams, facilitating community education workshops, and participating in projects that improve health equity. You will also support the National Asian Health Line, screening and immunisation programmes, and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external partners to deliver responsive, culturally appropriate care. About the Team and Location You will join the Asian and Ethnic Health Services (AEHS) team within Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, working alongside dedicated cultural support staff, clinicians, interpreters, and community partners to improve health outcomes for Asian and ethnic communities. The role is primarily based at Waitākere Hospital or North Shore Hospital, and other locations across the district as required. About you You will have a degree in social work, interpreting, or a health-related discipline, along with experience working in the health or social services sector. You will have a strong understanding of culturally responsive practice and experience supporting Asian and ethnic clients and their whānau through client-centred, strengths-based, and culturally safe practices. You will be a confident communicator who enjoys building trusted relationships, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, and advocating for equitable access to healthcare. You will bring Experience working with Asian and ethnic communities in health or social service settings. Knowledge of cultural competency principles and a commitment to culturally safe practice. Fluency in English and at least one relevant Asian language (such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, or another community language). Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate services and manage competing priorities. Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and community organisations. Confidence using digital systems, maintaining accurate records, and preparing documentation.
