From the tracks, reserves, and coastal environments of Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū / Banks Peninsula and the Port Hills, to the forests and recreation areas of Bottle Lake Forest Park, our Regional Parks team helps protect and maintain these special places for our communities and visitors to enjoy. About the role | Ko te mahi nei We have multiple Seasonal Field Ranger opportunities available across our Regional Parks network. These hands‑on roles are ideal for people who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in maintaining public spaces, and want to gain practical experience in parks and conservation management. As a Seasonal Field Ranger, you will help ensure our parks and natural areas are safe, welcoming, and well maintained. Your work will include: Maintaining park facilities, tracks, reserves, and visitor areas. Supporting vegetation management activities including mowing, line trimming, weed control, planting, and general maintenance. Monitoring park assets and reporting issues as they arise. Supporting conservation and seasonal maintenance projects. Working with the wider Regional Parks team to deliver positive experiences for visitors. This is a physically active role where you’ll work outdoors in a range of conditions. You’ll need to be practical, reliable, and comfortable getting stuck into a variety of tasks. About the opportunities We have seasonal positions available across Port Hills / Banks Peninsula and Bottle Lake Forest Park, with varying fixed‑term durations and start dates. Port Hills 2 x 4‑month Seasonal Field Rangers – commencing October/November 2026 1 x 6‑month Seasonal Field Ranger – commencing October/November 2026 1 x 8‑month Seasonal Field Ranger – commencing October/November 2026 Location: Victoria Park Bottle Lake Forest 1 x 8‑month Seasonal Field Ranger – commencing September 2026 1 x 8‑month Seasonal Field Ranger – commencing November 2026 Location: Bottle Lake Forest Park You will bring: A genuine passion for parks, conservation, and the outdoors. A good level of physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Confidence working both independently and as part of a small team. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage positively with park visitors, stakeholders, and the wider community. A positive attitude, initiative, and willingness to learn. Hold a full New Zealand driver’s licence. Have completed, or are currently completing, a relevant qualification in Parks Management, Conservation, Forestry, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related field. (Desirable) Are active outdoor recreationists with practical experience in natural environments.
