Senior Internal Auditor

About the role The role of the Internal Audit team is to provide independent, meaningful, and insightful assurance services to the organisation. As a partner across the organisation the Internal Audit team adds real value, going beyond compliance to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and work proactively to help manage risk. In the Principal Audit team, your work will touch on many aspects of what the NZDF is about—from camps and bases, overseas posts, and governance systems, through to finance, travel and HR systems. Reporting to the Principal Audit Manager you will work collaboratively with two other senior auditors and our co‑source audit partners to help deliver a strategically relevant internal audit work plan, and provide assurance advisory and risk insight services that are highly valued by senior stakeholders. Responsibilities Develop and deliver the in‑year Internal Audit plan Build and develop a high‑performing, cohesive team of Internal Auditors and lead them to success Drive and implement change in a fast‑paced and contemporary internal audit environment Provide expertise and support to fraud investigations when required Help solve interesting and unique problems that lead to tangible improvements Build enduring relationships that work with the military and civilian personnel and teams that make up the NZDF Qualifications Hold a tertiary qualification at Bachelor level in Commerce, Accounting, Business, Finance or Law Ideally you are at a senior level of internal audit experience Demonstrated success in leading the delivery of audit engagements and other assurance services Sound project management, analytical and problem‑solving skills Attention to detail and an ability to draw conclusions from complex information Highly developed communication skills and an ability to develop and maintain effective relationships across the organisation and a wide range of stakeholders Sound understanding and proven practical approaches to applying Global Internal Audit Standards Sound understanding of contemporary risk management approaches and frameworks Benefits Fully funded life cover up to $300,000 and critical illness protection Discounted additional insurances Free will services Savings schemes for the Defence community Expert financial guidance and mortgage broker services NZDF champions diversity and inclusivity, valuing every member and fuelling their success.
