About the Role Central Otago Maternity Unit in Alexandra is seeking a Registered Midwife to join their team on a part time (18 hours per week) fixed term basis covering parental leave until October 2027. This dynamic role involves supporting Lead Maternity Carers and caseloading midwives in a rural maternity unit, assisting with antenatal assessments, labour and birth care, and postnatal support for women and their whānau. You will be using your valuable midwifery experience to provide exceptional care, support and guidance to our new mothers and babies as they set out together on their new journey. About the Team / Service / Location We consider ourselves to be very fortunate here at the Central Otago Maternity Unit. Not only do we get to care for fabulous birthing women, whānau and pēpi from all across our diverse region, we also get to work alongside a small but dedicated team of kind, compassionate, dedicated midwives and other health professionals to provide a safe and positive pregnancy, birthing and postnatal birthing journey. Each year we birth around 70 babies and provide postnatal inpatient care to a further 200+ families, working closely with our LMC colleagues to give the kind of care our rural community deserves. About You We are looking for experienced midwives who have an exceptional commitment to quality care and enjoy being involved in a variety of tasks to ensure the very best care is provided at all times. What you will bring Registration as a Midwife with the NZMC and current Annual Practicing Certificate. Strong clinical and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. A commitment to providing high-quality, whānau-centred care. Adaptability and resilience to work in a dynamic healthcare environment. Salary range This role falls under the terms and conditions of the MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement (1 June 2025 – 31 October 2027), Registered (Core) Midwives Salary Scale, between Step 2 and Step 7, $85,559 to $111,821 per annum, pro rata.
