About the Role Join OpenStar's Magnet Technologies team to help design, build, and test the high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets at the heart of our levitated dipole reactor. You’ll get hands‑on exposure across the magnet lifecycle, from design and simulation through to manufacturing processes like joint fabrication and hardware testing. Key Responsibilities Support the design of HTS magnets and related hardware, translating system‑level performance goals into manufacturable designs. Assist with multiphysics simulation and analysis of magnet designs (e.g. ANSYS EM, COMSOL). Support manufacturing processes such as superconducting joint fabrication (preparing and soldering sample lap joints). Help incorporate design‑for‑manufacture principles and support first builds. Assist with the implementation of tooling and manufacturing processes. Set up and run test rigs (e.g. resistance testing jigs) to characterize magnet and joint performance. Collect, analyze, and document test results, and report progress against project milestones. Key Relationships Magnet Technologies engineers HTS Rectifiers team Mechanical/Subsystems team - manufacturing and tooling coordination What We're Looking For Some experience with CAD software. Comfortable with hands‑on lab or workshop work. Ability to work through and solve highly multidisciplinary engineering problems. Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team. Strong team member with clear communication and collaboration skills. Innate desire to learn, innovate, and critique ideas including one's own. Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in mechanical, electrical, materials engineering, physics, or a related discipline.
