Electrical/Electrical & Electronic/Mechatronics (BEng) - Summer Intern Programme 2026/27 Are you studying a BEng - Electrical, Mechatronics, or Engineering Science, at a New Zealand University? Looking for real work, hands on learning, and supportive colleagues? Wellington-based Summer Intern programme with limited places available in Ōtara (Auckland) and Islington (Christchurch) Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system. Our engineers work on projects that power lives and communities across Aotearoa. Joining us as a Summer Intern is a great way to strengthen your pathway to our Graduate Programme. You’ll gain the experience, skills, and relationships to help you succeed as a future Graduate Engineer. About the Summer Intern Programme From mid-November to mid-February, you’ll join Transpower as one of around 30 Summer Interns, paid the living wage. From day one, you’ll do meaningful work, supported by a collaborative and knowledgeable team, while gaining insight into New Zealand’s Grid Owner and System Operator. The programme is based mainly at our Head Office, Waikoukou, in Wellington, with limited places in Ōtara (Auckland) and Islington (Christchurch). If you’re joining us in Wellington from another region, previous interns have arranged group accommodation or stayed at Victoria University’s student halls, a short walk from our office. Great work, strong relationships, and on-the-job learning will give you a real advantage if you choose to apply for our Graduate Programmes in future. What we're looking for To be considered, your CV and cover letter will show: you are studying Electrical, Electrical and Electronic, Mechatronics, Maths/Physics, or Engineering Science at a New Zealand university a cumulative GPA of 5.5 or higher (please have your transcript ready to upload) well developed written and verbal communication skills you have a genuine interest in Transpower, and how electricity transmission is fundamental to New Zealand’s transition to a low carbon future Power Systems study is not essential but is advantageous and worth mentioning in your cover letter!
