Clinical Nurse Specialist, Patient Blood Management

HNZ leads the day‑to‑day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.

About the Role: Counties Manukau Health serves one of Aotearoa’s most diverse and fast‑growing populations. We are committed to delivering high‑quality, culturally safe care that supports equity and improves outcomes for the people of South Auckland. Our Patient Blood Management (PBM) service plays a key role in enhancing patient safety and optimising care across surgical, medical, and high‑risk pathways. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join this evolving service.

• Deliver specialist PBM advice and advanced clinical decision support.
\n
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote safe, evidence‑based blood‑management strategies.
\n
• Lead PBM quality improvement activities, audits, and data‑driven initiatives.
\n
• Provide education, coaching, and clinical support to nursing and medical staff.
\n
• Support service innovation, guideline development, and PBM pathway optimisation.
\n
• Uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi and champion equity for Māori and Pacific communities.
\n
• Partner with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (Transfusion Medicine) and Patient Blood Management Nurse Practitioner to deliver high‑quality advice, education, training programmes, and clinical services that support best practice in transfusion medicine and patient blood management.

• Registered Nurse with a current NZ practising certificate.
\n
• Minimum of 5 years post‑registration experience, ideally in perioperative care, haematology, critical care, or transfusion‑related practice.
\n
• Postgraduate nursing qualification (PG Cert/PG Dip or working towards).
\n
• Strong leadership, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
\n
• Commitment to culturally safe practice and improving equity in health outcomes.
\n
• Passion for evidence‑based practice and service improvement.
