Clinical Nurse Specialist - Wound Care

Hutt Hospital. Permanent, 1.0 FTE (80 hours per fortnight, Monday to Friday 08:00‑16:30).

About the Role\n

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist Wound Care you will lead the Specialist Wound Management Education and Liaison Service, a tier‑3 service which complements the Specialist Community Nursing Service Tier‑2 Service (District Nursing). The service focuses on:

Key Responsibilities\n

• Oversee the management of referrals for the specialist wound management education and liaison service (service guideline available on request).
\n
• Provide expertise in the management of complex wounds.
\n
• Lead the nursing team supporting delivery of the Specialist Wound Management Education and Liaison Service.
\n
• Provide ongoing training of staff in evidence‑based wound care, Doppler assessment and support skill acquisition.
\n
• Provide mentorship and support to Aged Residential Care and Primary Care nursing teams in the management of complex wounds.
\n
• Maintain nurse‑led services/clinics in outpatient, home and community settings.
\n
• Strengthen the nurse‑led case‑management model for complex wound patients.
\n
• Collaborate and liaise with inpatient services to support best practice and facilitate discharge planning.
\n
• Contribute to data collection and reporting.
\n
• Initiate investigations (e.g., radiology requests) linked to own clinics or as requested by specialist services; request duplex scans in virtual clinics.
\n
• Participate in planning and delivery of education for health professionals to enhance evidence‑based best practice in wound management.
\n
• Lead and monitor the use of specialist wound products, including trailing and auditing usage.
\n
• Advocate for patients across the continuum of care for their wound‑related health.

About the Team and Service Location\n

The Community Health Service comprises District Nurses, Associate Clinical Nurse Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Health Care Assistants and administrative support. It collaborates with a wide range of services within the Community Adult and Allied Directorate and the wider Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley District Community. The Specialist Wound Management Education and Liaison Service team consists of CNS, Wound Care District Nurses and credentialed Doppler Nurses. The admin team supports you with clinic appointments, study days and other tasks as required. You will be a member of the District‑wide Tissue Viability group, supporting wound management standards, stewardship and education.

About You\n

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for wound care and a dedication to addressing health inequities in the community.

Qualifications and Experience\n

\n
• Extensive knowledge of wound care management, including comprehensive nursing assessment and initiation of clinical investigations to confirm the underlying aetiology of ulceration, pressure injury and other non‑healing wounds.
\n
• Confidence in delivering formal and informal education with strong coaching and mentoring skills.
\n
• Experience working with a wide variety of clinicians, external agencies and service users.
\n
• Member of the New Zealand Wound Care Society or another relevant organisation.
\n
• Successfully completed an Expert Portfolio and Post‑Graduate Diploma in nursing; currently working towards completion of a Masters in Nursing.
