About the Role As a General Administration Roving Reliever, you will provide efficient, effective, and timely administrative support across multiple services as required. This role is integral to ensuring patients receive a high‑quality experience through accurate administration, appointment management, reception support, and customer service. No two days will be the same. You may be supporting outpatient clinics, reception areas, booking services, or other administrative functions. Responsibilities include managing patient bookings, responding to telephone enquiries, maintaining patient information systems, processing referrals, greeting patients and visitors, and providing general administrative support to clinical and operational teams. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new systems and processes are essential for success in this role. This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours. Hours of work may be up to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 7:30am and 5:30pm, depending on operational requirements. Job sharing will be considered. Additional shifts may also be required. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Previous administration, reception, or customer service experience Excellent verbal, written, and telephone communication skills Strong computer, keyboard, and data entry skills Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities A customer‑focused approach and a commitment to delivering high‑quality service The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and professional standards Flexibility to work across different departments and adapt to changing workloads and priorities Knowledge of medical terminology Understanding of healthcare booking systems and processes About the Team/Service The Casual Administration Pool provides vital administrative support across Palmerston North Hospital, ensuring continuity of service during periods of leave, increased demand, and operational requirements. As a Roving Reliever, you will work alongside a diverse range of clinical and administrative teams, helping deliver efficient, patient‑centred services throughout the organisation. Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350‑bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
