Tug Engineer

Our Marine team plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels within Auckland's harbour. As a Tug Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting marine operations by maintaining the safe and reliable operation of our tug vessels and associated equipment. Working as part of a highly skilled marine team, you will contribute to the safe movement of commercial shipping, support critical harbour operations, and help ensure our marine assets remain operational and fit for purpose. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that keeps Auckland's port moving 24/7 Key Responsibilities Maintain the safe and efficient operation of tug vessel machinery and equipment. Support the safe movement of commercial vessels within the Auckland pilotage district. Undertake inspections, routine maintenance, and fault identification activities. Ensure vessel machinery and systems are maintained in accordance with maritime and regulatory requirements. Work closely with Tug Masters, Marine Team Members, and the wider Marine team to support operational requirements. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve reliability, safety, and efficiency. Maintain current maritime certifications and actively participate in ongoing training and development. Support the Marine Shift Supervisor in delivering safe, reliable, and customer-focused marine services ABOUT YOU | Ko wai koe You are a safety-focused marine professional with strong technical capability and a passion for operational excellence. You enjoy working as part of a close-knit team, thrive in a dynamic environment, and take pride in ensuring marine assets are maintained to the highest standards. MEC 5 or higher Certificate of Competency. Previous marine engineering or maritime operational experience. Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards. Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to a positive safety culture. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to work flexible rosters and respond to operational requirements SRL Certificate of Competency. Experience working within a port or harbour environment. Experience supporting commercial vessel operations. Knowledge of marine maintenance systems and practices Strong technical and mechanical aptitude. Ability to identify issues and implement practical solutions. Commitment to safe and efficient operations. Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills. Ability to work collaboratively across teams and operational functions. Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on reliability and performance. Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced operational environment.
