Discounts on goods – save on a range of everyday items. About the Role Health New Zealand Taranaki are looking for an inspiring Midwife Manager to join their maternity team. The position is full‑time, permanent, 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week). This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who is ready to step forward with vision, clarity, and commitment. You will oversee the operational delivery of safe, evidence‑informed maternity care, guiding your team to provide the highest standard of service for māmā, pēpi, and whānau across Taranaki. From managing day‑to‑day service delivery to nurturing new talent and shaping clinical direction, your work will leave a lasting impact on our people and our community. About the Team / Service / Location The maternity team in Taranaki is a diverse, small, welcoming group of health professionals who work across the two maternity facilities in Taranaki and the outpatient service. The maternity facilities comprise of a secondary maternity unit located in Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth, and a primary birthing unit located in Hawera. The secondary maternity unit is located over two floors. On the ground floor there is a combined birthing suite and antenatal ward; the postnatal ward is located on the first floor. In the secondary facility there are six birthing rooms, a birthing pool, seven antenatal beds, and 14 postnatal beds. The primary birthing unit in Hawera has one birthing room with pool and three postnatal beds. Te Whatu Ora Taranaki’s neonatal unit has level 2A accreditation with 6 cots and 2 intensive care cots to provide care for babies from 28 weeks gestation. In 2026 the maternity unit at Taranaki Base Hospital will move into a purpose‑built new unit, including a purpose‑built midwife‑led birthing facility. As midwife manager you will be part of the leadership team overseeing and facilitating the transition between the two buildings, shaping the future of maternity care provided to our community. About You You are a confident, values‑driven leader who brings calm to complexity and energy to a team. You have a heart for midwifery, a head for operational excellence, and the humility to listen, support, and grow alongside others. You possess a professional demeanour and a high level of personal integrity. What You Will Bring New Zealand Registered Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate. 5 + years of midwifery experience in a secondary care or similar setting. Proven experience in midwifery leadership, coordination, or management. Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead, support, and influence across all levels. A strong belief in collaboration, cultural safety, and partnership with women/wāhine and whānau. Confidence in driving service improvement and navigating change. An understanding of leadership, ethics, and business in a clinical context.
