District Nurse - community services

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the New Plymouth District Nursing team. District Nursing is a community‑based service that combines home visiting and clinic‑based work. The District Nurse Service provides services 7 days a week from 08:00–16:30. The work is predominantly community / patient home‑based and requires multiple daily drives both locally and long distance. It also requires a reasonable level of physicality – the ability to walk up stairs, carry, kneel down, and repeatedly get in and out of a car. A full, unrestricted New Zealand driver’s licence is essential for this role. The candidate must have a current full class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence with no restrictions. Responsibilities Provide nursing care to patients in their homes and in community clinics. Deliver care across a wide variety, including long‑term medical conditions and chronic wound management. Work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team and manage personal and professional boundaries in a small rural community. Implement health‑promoting strategies in various home, social, community and cultural demographics. Requirements Current New Zealand Registered Nurse annual practising certificate (essential). Full and current class 1 NZ driver’s licence with no restrictions (essential). Minimum of three years relevant experience in rural district nursing (essential). Post‑graduate study preferred. Proven time‑management, prioritisation and critical thinking skills. Excellent assessment, communication and electronic device use skills. Sensitivity to cultural aspects, Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches in health care settings.
