Assistant Residence Supervisor

Overview The Department of Corrections seeks Assistant Resident Supervisors for our Matawhāiti and Tōruatanga residential facilities in Christchurch, Christchurch Men's Prison, until 30th June 2027. Responsibilities Plan and manage a structured day with supervised activities and community outings, including driving residents when required. Support residents to solve problems that arise during daily activities. Ensure residents’ safety and wellbeing on all outings and on site. Promote public safety through effective planning, management and supervision of each resident. Participate in the creation and implementation of individual management plans and work with residents to achieve their goals. Model pro‑social behaviour and uphold Ara Poutama’s organisational values at all times. Maintain operational standards by completing site checks, audits and secure procedures. Document all resident interactions, case notes and plan updates in the required system. Attend and contribute to staff training sessions, including physical training where needed. About you Sound decision making and strong problem‑solving skills. Resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Experience working with diverse people, particularly those with complex needs and offending profiles. Effective time‑management and organisation skills. Team‑oriented mindset, collaborating with staff to reach common goals. Inclusive, non‑judgmental approach and professional boundary maintenance. Commitment to safety and wellbeing for yourself, residents and peers. Flexibility to work 12‑hour shifts on a cyclic roster, including nights, weekends and public holidays. Benefits Annual salary range: Level1$65,843 – Level3$73,149 (pro rata). Remuneration reflects relevant skills and experience.
