Job Summary Fixed‑term full‑time positions (two‑year term preferred). Three opportunities available with preferred commencement dates: late2026 (one) and early2027 (two). About the Role We are seeking three enthusiastic Medical Officers to join our Intensive Care Unit at Christchurch Hospital. These fixed‑term appointments offer the opportunity to work within a busy tertiary referral ICU, caring for critically ill adult and paediatric patients across the South Island. You will be part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team that manages a diverse case mix, including trauma, cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, medical, surgical and complex specialty patients. An aeromedical retrieval component is also part of this role. Responsibilities Assist Intensive Care Specialists, registrars, nursing staff and allied health professionals in the assessment, management and ongoing care of critically ill patients. Supervise registrar/junior staff and collaborate within the multidisciplinary team. Participate in aeromedical retrieval and manage airway equipment and techniques. Ensure high‑quality, patient‑centred care and uphold the principles of TeTiriti o Waitangi. Qualifications Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of NewZealand. At least four years of postgraduate clinical experience (or equivalent), including at least 12months ICU experience. Experience in acute care, emergency medicine, anaesthesia, ICU or other relevant specialties highly desirable. Competence in airway management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care. Commitment to providing safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Willingness to participate in rostered shifts, including evenings, nights and weekends.
