Job Description

Psychologist – Permanent, Full‑time Position based in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, within the Ministry’s Learning Support team. The role supports children and young people with learning support needs by maximizing learning and promoting social inclusion across early learning services, schools, and other educational settings. Responsibilities Identify patterns or contributing factors that influence learning, wellbeing and behaviour, and use this knowledge to enhance inclusive practices. Provide professional support and guidance to schools, teachers and families, building the capacity of those best placed to support students. Deliver appropriate in‑depth specialist assessment and analysis, and collaborate on evidence‑informed interventions within a trans‑disciplinary team, particularly for children with complex needs. About you Master’s level tertiary qualification and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or equivalent. New Zealand Registered Psychologist under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act with a current practising certificate. Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information. Capability to contribute specialist skills and coordinate service provision within multi‑agency, trans‑disciplinary settings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with ākonga/learners, whānau/families and kaiako/teachers across diverse settings. Understanding and application of the principles of Te Tiririti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga. Full driver licence; travel will be required. Willingness and ability to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $85,916 – $126,500 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.
