Grow your leadership career while making a meaningful contribution to community safety and wellbeing. The role is for the Intelligence Supervisor within the Department of Corrections. Reporting to the Manager Regional Intelligence, Lower North Prisons, the Intelligence Supervisor manages allocation of workloads and staffing to ensure the Intel team delivers reliable, accurate and timely intelligence products to decision makers. The role supports the Manager to deliver an exemplary intelligence service and to continually improve the Department’s intelligence capability. This position offers an opportunity for an experienced people leader or an intelligence practitioner to shape the intelligence architecture within Ara Poutama Aotearoa. It will be based at Rimutaka Prison and cover Intel staff at Arohata Prison. A sense of urgency and the ability to deliver quick results in complex environments is expected. About you The role requires a strong leader who can develop and mentor staff. To be successful, you must have: Demonstrated experience in intelligence, preferably with a focus on criminal and/or unlawful activities. Ability to direct and manage a team to achieve tasks and meet client expectations. Leadership skills to create and maintain a healthy team, build trust and confidence with clients, and influence decision‑makers effectively. Capability to lead and deliver on individual and team projects, including resource allocation, time management, and prioritisation. A philosophy and work ethic that includes a sense of urgency, preparedness, vigilance, and a drive to make a difference. Advanced relationship‑management skills to encourage cooperative efforts and manage potential conflict. Effective interpersonal and communication skills across a wide spectrum, including advocacy, negotiation, and consultation. Ability to recognise key political and other factors that may impact working relationships and handle them sensitively and strategically. Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff. Capability to work in a high‑pressure environment and lead staff through those periods. Top‑Secret clearance (must be obtained and maintained). Full driving licence, as travel is required.
