Shape enterprise data architecture in a large and complex public sector agency Turn information challenges into architecture that drives better outcomes Build the foundations for trusted data, information and governance Mō te tūnga | About the role In this senior enterprise architecture role, you will be responsible for developing and advancing our enterprise-wide data and information architecture, ensuring it supports organisational priorities, digital transformation initiatives, and future business needs. You will play a key role in delivering our Long-Term Digital Platform Plan and Data and Information Modernisation programme by creating a connected architectural vision for our data and information that enables informed decision-making and better outcomes across the Department. Working across Digital and the wider organisation, you will provide strategic advice and thought leadership on the management, use, integration and governance of data and information. You will develop architecture roadmaps, define standards and principles, and ensure technology investments support both current and future organisational requirements. Success in this role requires strong collaboration and influence. You will work alongside senior leaders, business owners, product teams, technical specialists and external partners to ensure our data and information policies, standards and guardrails are embedded into our solutions, by building shared understanding and driving alignment across competing priorities. You will also identify emerging opportunities and risks, assess new technologies and industry trends, and ensure our data and information enterprise architecture balances innovation, compliance, security and long-term sustainability. You are an experienced enterprise architect who is passionate about unlocking the value of data and information to improve organisational outcomes. You have successfully shaped data and information architecture in large, complex organisations and understand how architecture can enable organisational performance, innovation and better decision‑making. You can see the bigger picture while remaining pragmatic about delivery. Whether defining future‑state architectures, establishing governance, influencing investment decisions or helping teams solve challenging problems, you bring clarity, credibility and a collaborative approach. You build strong relationships quickly and are equally comfortable engaging with executives, business leaders, architects, engineers and delivery teams. You influence through expertise, communication and trust rather than authority. Experience with highly‑complex, sensitive environments such as Ara Poutama is desirable but not essential. We will be looking for evidence of: Extensive experience in enterprise‑level data and information architecture, including developing strategic roadmaps and architecture practices that align with organisational objectives. Significant experience in organising information assets, information, taxonomies, metadata, information lifecycles. Demonstrated breadth across data, information, business and application architecture, with an understanding of integration, governance, core platforms, and the cyber security implications of architectural decisions. Proven ability to build strong relationships, influence and challenge stakeholders, and support strategic decision‑making across a large and complex organisation. Strong communication, engagement and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical advice for both technical and non‑technical audiences. Deep knowledge of modern data and information management practices, architectural patterns, governance and compliance frameworks, and emerging technologies such as AI and machine learning, with experience leading or mentoring multidisciplinary teams. The midpoint of the salary range is $170,814 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $145,192 - $204,977 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
