Client Accountant Application Deadline: 24 August 2026 Department: Client Accounting and Tax Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: Auckland Head Office Reporting To: Annie Yang Description Are you an accountant with 2-4 years' experience in a Chartered Accounting firm looking for something a little different? At Perpetual Guardian, you'll work with a diverse portfolio of trusts, estates, charities and private clients, developing your accounting and tax skills while gaining exposure to areas of client accounting that most public practice firms don't offer. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who enjoys preparing financial statements and tax returns, solving technical problems, and building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues. You'll be supported by an experienced team and receive ongoing training in trust and estate accounting, allowing you to broaden your expertise while continuing to build your career. Key Responsibilities As a Client Accountant, you'll manage a portfolio of clients and work closely with our Client Managers to deliver high-quality accounting and tax services. Preparing financial statements and income tax returns for trusts, estates, charities and individuals Providing accounting and tax support to Client Managers Responding to client accounting and tax queries Preparing workpapers and ensuring files are technically accurate and complete Maintaining strong client relationships through professional and timely communication Ensuring compliance with New Zealand tax legislation and internal quality standards Identifying opportunities to improve processes and client outcomes Skills, Knowledge & Expertise 2-4 years' experience in a New Zealand Chartered Accounting practice or similar client accounting environment. Experience preparing financial statements, income tax returns and accounting workpapers for multiple clients. A good understanding of New Zealand tax legislation and accounting principles. A Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or equivalent qualification. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Experience using accounting software such as Xero or similar.
