Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role We are seeking a skilled and motivated Entomology Technician to join our Systematics Team based in Auckland. The Systematics Team provides foundational knowledge about Aotearoa New Zealand's biodiversity through research on plants, invertebrates, fungi, and plant-associated bacteria. The team supports biosecurity, conservation and primary production by maintaining nationally significant collections and delivering scientific evidence that informs decision-making. This role supports the ongoing care, management, and accessibility of the New Zealand Arthropod Collection (NZAC). Working closely with systematics researchers, curators, and technical staff, you will undertake a wide range of collection management and curation activities while independently carrying out technical tasks that support the maintenance, development, and long-term value of the collection. You will also play an important role in overseeing laboratory management of associated NZAC laboratories and facilities, This position is permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week), reports to the Capability Leader, and is based at our Auckland site (St Johns). Ō pūmanawa | About you To be successful in this role, you will ideally have: A postgraduate qualification in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent professional experience. Understanding of scientific methods, experimental design, data collection and data management. Experience working in laboratory, collection, technical support or research environments. Strong practical problem-solving and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail. Experience maintaining equipment, facilities or technical resources. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information clearly. The ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. A commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement. An understanding of, and respect for, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in the workplace. First Aid certification (desirable). Experience working with biological collections, entomology, biodiversity research, or laboratory compliance systems would be advantageous.
