Job Description
About the role We’re looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our asphalt, binders and field‑testing team in Christchurch. Based out of our Canterbury Civil Engineering Lab, you’ll split your time between lab testing and field work across Christchurch and the wider Canterbury region. This is a role where you’ll learn, build real technical skills, and play a key part in quality outcomes that matter. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, with occasional night shift and weekend work when needed. Key responsibilities Carry out asphalt, bitumen and materials testing in the lab and out in the field. Follow approved test methods and apply relevant local and international standards. Complete testing and reporting in line with Fulton Hogan laboratory and IANZ requirements. Analyse results clearly and provide accurate information to internal and external customers. Support quality assurance and production outcomes across a range of projects. Qualifications A positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn. Good teamwork skills, with the confidence to also work independently. A full, clean New Zealand Class1 driver licence. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established methods, processes and procedures. Good time‑management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise your workload. A willingness and ability to carry out physical tasks as part of working with samples. A qualification in science, engineering or laboratory testing would be an advantage, but it is not essential – training and support will be provided.
