Job Description
Overview Full‑time, permanent role at Christchurch Men's Prison. The positions supports prisoners by providing meaningful work experience, training and skill development in a commercial kitchen and laundry environment. The aim is to equip residents with qualifications, work habits and confidence for successful re‑entry into the community. Responsibilities Directly supervise and provide practical training to prisoners in a commercial kitchen setting, preparing and delivering approximately 900 meals three times daily. Support the laundry operation as part of the Internal Services team. Facilitate informal and formal learning experiences to enable prisoners to attain NZQA qualifications. Maintain high health and safety standards, documenting incidents and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies. Develop positive relationships with prisoners, staff and stakeholders, fostering an environment of respect, inclusion and cultural awareness. Manage shift schedules (80 hours per fortnight, Monday‑Sunday, 0600‑1800 hrs), including public holiday shifts and occasional overtime or call‑outs. Collaborate with Corrections Officers and other prison service staff to support overall rehabilitation initiatives. Qualifications Experience and proven passion in the catering industry at a professional level. Holding London City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent trade qualifications. Demonstrated commitment to outstanding health and safety practices. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships. Strong motivation to develop and coach others within a team setting. Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment and demonstrated understanding of TeTiriti o Waitangi. Valid New Zealand driver licence (or eligibility to obtain one). Experience as an adult educator or NZAQ assessor (4098) is an advantage. Successfully complete required pre‑employment checks, including medical testing, physical assessment and police vetting. Benefits Starting salary of $72,514 to $80,876 per annum, commensurate with experience. Potential for salary progression up to $90,322 (Level3+).
