Experienced Apprentice Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Mō te tūragč | About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Apprentice Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join the Christchurch team within our existing workshop. Based at our Hornby yard, you’ll work in a comprehensive heavy vehicle workshop that supports all our plant and equipment, with onsite WOF testing, auto electrical, and paint shop services all in one place. It’s a genuine one‑stop shop for vehicle and heavy equipment repairs. You’ll join our afternoon shift team and play a key part in helping us deliver safe, reliable, high‑quality mechanical support across the business. Key Responsibilities Service and repair vehicles, trailers, and plant under the guidance of experienced mechanics where needed. Complete inspections and identify faults, wear, and maintenance needs. Report failures, breakdowns, and likely causes clearly and accurately. Support the team to keep the workshop running safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised workspace. Qualifications Ability to work a consistent afternoon shift roster. Practical heavy diesel mechanical experience, ideally gained through an apprenticeship or similar hands‑on workshop environment. Progress towards a relevant heavy automotive qualification, or a clear commitment to completing one. A full Class 1 Drivers Licence; Class 2 and WTR endorsements are advantageous. A good understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, with the confidence to keep learning on the job.
