Associate Professor in Computer Science - HEBUT

The School of Mathematics and Computational Sciences is seeking an Associate Professor to join our team teaching at the School of International Education, HEBUT, China, spending time between semesters at Massey University's Manawatu campus in Palmerston North. This position is a full-time, permanent opportunity. About the role Join Massey University as an Associate Professor in Computer Science and play a key role in delivering a unique international education partnership with Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT), China. This position combines high-quality teaching and impactful research, contributing to the advancement of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering disciplines within a globally connected academic environment. Based primarily at a HEBUT campus in China, you will teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in English, delivering engaging lectures, tutorials, and other learning activities while helping to shape and develop curricula across a range of computing disciplines. You will utilise innovative teaching approaches and digital technologies to enhance student learning and contribute to student success through supervision, mentoring, and academic support. The successful applicant is expected to act as a Team Leader for the Massey staff deployed in China, coordinating with the HEBUT teaching team on course delivery and on-the-ground logistics. Alongside teaching, you will maintain an active and internationally recognised research programme, publishing high-quality scholarly outputs, presenting at leading conferences, supervising student research, and pursuing external and internal research funding opportunities. Candidates with expertise in Artificial Intelligence or Software Engineering will be particularly well positioned to contribute to the School's strategic research and teaching priorities. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Massey University and HEBUT, you will contribute to a vibrant academic partnership that provides students with an outstanding international learning experience. While the role is predominantly based in China during teaching semesters, the successful applicant is expected to spend about four months each year at Massey's Palmerston North campus in New Zealand, fostering strong connections across both institutions. About you A PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. Proven ability to teach and engage international students at university level. Demonstrated experience designing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Strong research track record, including publication of scholarly outputs. Experience supervising or supporting postgraduate research activities, including PhD and Master's projects. Ability to contribute to a collaborative and internationally focused academic environment. You will be required to enter into a supplementary contract relating to provisions made by the University for you to be able to carry out your duties in China. To be appointable into this role you must be eligible (or currently have the legal right) to work without restriction in both New Zealand and China. The salary will depend on experience but will be in the range of (NZD$142,607 - NZD$166,584), paid into a New Zealand bank account.
