Job Description
About the role As a Student Advisor (Postgraduate) in the Division of Health, you will ensure high‑quality, student‑focused, coordinated and efficient student administration, enrolment and selection processes. Your primary focus will be to provide specialist postgraduate academic advice, support decision‑making on graduate pathways, manage postgraduate student pathway planning, and oversee stakeholder engagement. The role ensures that systems, policies and services are student‑centred, culturally responsive and aligned with the University of Waikato’s commitment to excellence, equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Responsibilities Advise postgraduate students throughout their academic journey and build strong relationships with students and academic staff. Support equitable health education and the success of Māori and Pacific students. Support the full student lifecycle – from enquiry and application through to selection, enrolment, progression and completion. Work closely with Senior Student Advisors, academic staff and central Student Services teams to enhance student experience by ensuring administrative processes are efficient, transparent and inclusive. Contribute to student engagement and wellbeing initiatives, fostering a safe and supportive environment where students feel valued and empowered to succeed. Qualifications and Experience Significant experience in an administration support or customer‑focused role. Excellent communication skills (listening, writing and oral), robust organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. Strong independence in carrying out delegated tasks. Outstanding interpersonal and relationship‑management skills, able to relate to a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Rapid understanding of procedures and ability to assimilate new information. Proactive initiative and responsibility in responding to a variety of situations. Salary, Hours and Location Salary: $73,235 to $87,024 per year (based on skills, knowledge and experience). Full‑time role (37.5 hours per week) based on our Hillcrest Campus.
