In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across our biological sciences laboratories, physical containment facilities, and associated technical operations. You will play a key role in enabling high-quality teaching and research while ensuring laboratory operations meet the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance and operational excellence. You’ll enjoy improving systems, building capability and creating efficient laboratory operations that support outstanding teaching and research. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Faculty Technical Services and working closely with the Head of School, Biological Safety Managerand School Manager, you will: Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of biological sciences laboratories and physical containment facilities. Lead, coach and develop a team of technical staff through effective work and planning, capability development, performance management and mentoring. Ensure laboratory and containment operations meet all health and safety, MPI, HSNO and regulatory requirements, maintaining certifications and supporting successful internal and external audits. Partner with academic staff to coordinate laboratory teaching, optimise laboratory delivery and continuously improve the student learning experience. Manager laboratory facilities, equipment, assets and resources to ensire they remain fit for purpose, well maintained and effectively utilised. To be successful in this role, you will have: Extensive experience (at least five years) leading laboratory operations within biological sciences or related regulated laboratory environments. Demonstrated experience managing PC2 (or equivalent) facilities Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical teams. Strong knowledge of laboratory health and safety, risk management and regulatory compliance. Experience working within and managing physical containment facilities or comparable regulated environments. Excellent relationship-building skills with academics, students, regulators and external stakeholders. Strong organisation, communication and problem-solving skills A collaborative leadership style with a continuous improvement mindset.
