Transformation Lead

Business lead for the digital transformation of New Zealand's largest infrastructure programme Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch – Permanent, Full time. The role can be based in any of the three cities, with an expectation of approximately three days per week in the office. Role Overview We are delivering some of the most significant transport investments in New Zealand. As our Transformation Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how Infrastructure Development & Delivery uses data, digital tools and technology to improve project performance, decision‑making and delivery outcomes across the national capital programme. As the business lead for this digital transformation of NZTA’s capital delivery business, you will act as the client, setting the vision, direction and priorities for NZTA’s Digital Team to deliver alongside the business. Responsibilities Lead the internal client direction for digital and data enablement across the transformation roadmap for Infrastructure Development & Delivery. Set clear capability horizons that ensure the business evolves over time. Work closely with NZTA’s Digital Team, delivery leaders and partners to turn business needs into practical digital solutions that improve how we plan, deliver and manage our capital programme. Ensure there is a clear roadmap for digital enablement, supported by a clear business improvement plan, for the transformation of NZTA’s transport delivery function. Define the business outcomes and capability shifts required, working with digital specialists and delivery teams to turn those priorities into practical, measurable change. Act as the business lead who brings people together, makes sense of complexity, aligns priorities and keeps the transformation moving. Support the delivery of a connected, aligned NZTA‑wide digital roadmap, ensuring project information, asset management needs and broader organisational digital priorities are aligned. Influence investment decisions, support technology adoption and ensure digital initiatives deliver clear business value. Qualifications Proven experience leading business transformation, with a strong focus on embedding change into the day‑to‑day business. Confidence using digital tools, data, reporting and insights to improve performance and decision‑making. Experience shaping and embedding digital or technology‑enabled change in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments. Strong understanding of infrastructure, construction, project delivery or asset‑intensive industries, ideally in a transport context. The ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive progress without direct authority. A collaborative style and the ability to build alignment across multidisciplinary and matrixed teams. The ability to thrive in complexity and uncertainty, creating clarity, focus, momentum and delivery. Commercial acumen and experience working with suppliers, technology partners and vendors. A strong focus on digital improvement, continuous improvement and lifting organisational capability.
