About the team | Ko te rōpū nei Our Rates Team is set up to assess and collect rates, which is an integral part of the Council's income stream to support the daily operation and ongoing rejuvenation of our city. With one of the highest volumes of ratepayers in the country, we are a busy high functioning team who wear many hats when it comes to delivering best practice for our customers. About the role | Ko te mahi nei As a Rates Officer, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day administration of Council rates. Working across multiple systems, you will ensure rates information is maintained accurately, customer enquiries are resolved professionally, and transactions are processed in accordance with legislation, policies, and procedures. Key Responsibilities Administer rates accounts and maintain accurate property or water rating information. Process rates transactions, adjustments, refunds, and other account activities in accordance with Council policies and legislative requirements. Respond to customer enquiries via a range of channels, providing clear, accurate, and timely information. Navigate multiple systems to ensure the efficient processing and maintenance of rates information. Investigate and resolve account queries and issues with a customer‑focused approach. Apply relevant policies, regulations, and legislation consistently and accurately. This role would suit someone who: Has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and administrative tasks. Is empathetic and able to apply policies fairly, consistently, and professionally when working with customers. Thrives in a high‑volume environment and can effectively manage competing priorities. Is confident using multiple systems and learning new processes. Enjoys solving problems and identifying opportunities to improve the way work is done. Has experience interpreting policies, regulations, or legislation, or has an interest in working within a regulated environment. Works collaboratively and builds positive relationships with colleagues and customers. Is proactive, adaptable, and committed to delivering high‑quality outcomes. What's in it for you? Location – This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch Central. Salary – The salary band for this position goes from $67,635 to $75,150 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
