Job Description

Senior Cloud Engineer The Controller and Auditor‑General aims to improve trust and confidence in public services by giving New Zealanders an independent view of government spending and performance. As the statutory auditor of all public organisations, from councils to schools, The Audit Office's work plays a major part in ensuring that our public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world. We're looking for a permanent Senior Cloud Engineer to lead the design, security, and performance of the Office's Microsoft cloud and hybrid platforms. This role leads the delivery of scalable platforms, from engineering and improving CI/CD pipelines to supporting hybrid environments in production, ensuring that our cloud services are resilient and fit for purpose. Responsibilities Leading design, implementation, and support of Microsoft cloud and hybrid platforms. Strengthening secure‑by‑design foundations across Azure, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. Driving automation and continuous improvement through infrastructure‑as‑code and engineering best practice. Leading complex platform changes (including migrations, modernisation and resilience improvements). Providing senior technical leadership, working closely with internal teams and external vendors. Qualifications Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 and Entra ID in an enterprise environment. Experience with automation and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM, PowerShell). Excellent knowledge of cloud security, identity and access management, resilience, monitoring, and operational support. Experience working across hybrid infrastructure (networking, backup, recovery and platform modernisation). Strong technical advice skills, relationship building and senior technical leadership ability. Benefits Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
