Specialty Clinical Nurse - Consultation Liaison Services

Responsibilities Conduct bedside assessments, specialist mental health assessment, formulation, and intervention within acute hospital settings. Liaise with inpatient and community teams and hospital MDT. Contribute to care planning, consultation, liaison and education to support high-quality, integrated care for patients with co‑existing physical and mental health needs. Provide short‑term psychological support for patients and their whānau. Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and supervision of junior staff. Respond to the changing needs of the district and perform other tasks as required. Support the implementation of district and nursing goals and values, and promote Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley as a centre of excellence for nursing practice. Work rostered and rotating hours across the district as required due to patient safety and workforce necessities. Essential Qualifications and Experience Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ). Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) and scope appropriate to place of work. Completion of an undergraduate (leading to registration) or postgraduate program in mental health or intellectual disability nursing. Demonstrated understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in the nursing role. Commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori. Personal commitment to ongoing learning and development, including attainment/maintenance of PDRP. Full Driver's Licence. Ability to deliver results through effective planning, sound judgement and personal accountability. Strong collaboration skills and an ability to build trusted relationships. Clear communication adapted to different audiences and situations. Curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement. High standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behaviour. Contribution to a positive, inclusive, and safe working environment. Responsibility for own development and support for the development of others where appropriate. Desired Qualifications and Experience Experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action. Membership of Te Ao Māramatanga: College of Mental Health Nurses. Respect and collaboration in practice. Delivering an exemplary standard of care. Excellent written, verbal, and non‑verbal communication skills. Expertise in Mental State Examination and Risk Assessment. Calm, person‑centred and patient individual with well‑developed de‑escalation skills. Ability to implement appropriate clinical interventions and crisis management. Completion of required training to be appointed a Duly Authorised Officer under the Mental Health Act.
