Asone ofoursolicitors,you'llplay a key role in supporting Council's work by providing practical, high-quality legal advice that helps us meet our legislative obligations, manage risk, and deliver positive outcomes for our communities. About the role As a Solicitor within our Legal team,you'llprovidetrusted legal advice across a broad range of matters affecting local government.We are looking for a solicitor with specialist experience in property and/or resourcemanagement. Experience in local governmentwouldalsobeadvantageous.While we arerecruitingfor a role with an emphasis in those specialist areas, yourwork willalso spanareas such as public law, regulatory matters, contracts, governance, and operational legal issues. Working closely with teams across the organisation,you'll: Providetimely, practical, risk-based legal advice. Draft and review legal documents, contracts, agreements, opinions, and correspondence. Support Council teams to navigate legislation and regulatory requirements. Assistwith litigation and legal proceedings involving Council. Work with external legal providers where specialist advice isrequired. Deliver legal education, coaching, and training to build organisational capability. Contribute to cross-functional projects and organisational initiatives. Support a culture of continuous improvement, customer focus, and collaboration. Whatyou'llbring We'relooking for a relationship-focused lawyer who combines sound legal judgement with a practical, solutions-focused approach. You'llideally have: An LLB and admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. A current Practising Certificate, or eligible to hold a practising certificate. At least eight years' experience in private practice and/or an in-house legal environment. Demonstrableexperience in areas such as conveyancing, subdivision work, Public Works Act transactions, or debt collection. Strong legal research, drafting, and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage complex matters autonomously. Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. A customer-focused mindset and commitment to delivering high-quality service. The ability to work collaboratively while alsooperatingindependently. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
