ABOUT THE ROLE SPCA is one of New Zealand's most trusted charities, working to improve animal welfare and advocate for animals in need. Every year we care for thousands of animals through rescue, rehabilitation, shelter and rehoming, and our Animal Services teams play a vital role in making this possible. That's why we're looking for a compassionate and resilient Animal Attendant to join our team in Masterton. Permanent - Part-Time 24hrs per week on a rotating roster including one weekend day As an Animal Attendant, you'll help provide the highest standard of care for animals while supporting their rehabilitation and journey towards a new home. This is a physically active and emotionally rewarding role where no two days are the same. Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day care for animals, ensuring their health, wellbeing and welfare needs are met. Monitor animal health and behaviour, administering medication as required. Support animal enrichment, socialisation and behaviour programmes. Maintain accurate animal records using SPCA systems. Support adoption enquiries and provide excellent customer service to adopters and members of the public. Work alongside volunteers and colleagues to achieve positive animal welfare outcomes. Maintain clean, safe and hygienic animal housing and workspaces. ABOUT YOU You're compassionate, resilient and passionate about animal welfare. You enjoy working as part of a team, thrive in a hands-on environment and understand that this role can be physically and emotionally demanding, but incredibly rewarding. What we're looking for Animal handling experience and confidence working with a variety of animals. Experience delivering excellent customer service in a community-facing environment. Physically fit and comfortable performing manual tasks throughout the day. Strong communication, able to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions. Confident working both independently, part of a team and with volunteers. Well organised with good time management and attention to detail. High levels of empathy, resilience and professionalism.
