Job Description
The unification of Unitec and Manukau Institute of Technology - two respected institutions with over 50 years of service will transform Auckland’s public vocational education landscape. We're seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, supporting audit activities, and providing valuable financial insights to stakeholders across the organisation. About the role This is a varied and rewarding role for an accounting professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with stakeholder engagement. You'll be responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial reporting, overseeing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting annual financial statements, and helping ensure compliance with accounting standards and organisational requirements. Key responsibilities include: Preparing monthly financial and management reports for senior leadership and stakeholders Supporting statutory reporting and annual financial statement preparation Managing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations Supporting internal and external audit processes Preparing accounting journals, accruals, adjustments, and allocations Investigating and resolving reconciliation variances Providing financial analysis and reporting insights to support decision-making Contributing to finance-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives Ensure Fixed Asset capitalisation and related processes / reconciliations About you To succeed in this role, you'll bring strong financial accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. You'll ideally have: A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance CA ANZ membership, or be actively working towards qualification Previous experience in a Financial Accountant or similar role Strong knowledge of financial reporting and general ledger processes Proven experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Advanced Excel skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications Strong communication and relationship-building abilities The ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines Experience with PeopleSoft or a similar ERP system would be advantageous Applications close Wednesday 5 August 2026, however we will be reviewing applications as they are received and may progress with suitable candidates ahead of this date.
