Chairperson of the Board

Kites Trust is an incorporated charitable trust with 25-year experience working with Tangata Whai ora (people seeking wellbeing) in the mental health peer support space. We exist to empower Tangata Whai ora to lead their own journeys with freedom, dignity, and self-determination, centering the voices and experiences of people with lived experience of mental distress and/or addiction. We currently hold several government contracts for the delivery of peer support services in clinical and emergency settings, including a pilot for the delivery of peer support services in a hospital emergency department setting, and are leaders in the peer support community of practice in the Wellington region. In the past 3 years we have transitioned from a wholly volunteer to a professional organisation with a paid executive. We are now moving into a growth phase and require a chair who can provide strategic governance as the organization matures. Skills/competencies sought The successful candidate will have a depth of governance experience, preferably in the not for profit and mental health sectors. Experience in dealing with government contracts and the design and implementation of health programmes would be a bonus, as would an understanding of the lived experience environment. An ability to work collaboratively and lead with empathy underscored by a strategic vision is essential. Above all else, the successful candidate will have a genuine interest in the mission of Kites Trust and desire to promote lived experience as key to achieving social inclusion, equal citizenship rights and improved mental health services for people who experience mental health distress and/or addiction. Commitment required The board meets online monthly, with a two-hour formal board meeting for one month followed by a one hour informal/board only meeting the following month.Additional online meetings may be organized if necessary. In addition, the Board meets face to face in October each year for the Annual General Meeting and new Trustee induction day. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The total time commitment for the Chair is expected to average 10-12 hours per month. #J-18808-Ljbffr
