Trade Master is building a nationwide network of experienced Electrical Training Specialists to deliver practical, high-quality training to electricians and other electrical workers across New Zealand.

We are looking for registered electricians, inspectors, electrical contractors and experienced industry professionals who enjoy sharing their knowledge, mentoring others and helping lift standards across the sector.

These opportunities are primarily for independent contractors and offer flexible hours, locations and delivery schedules, making them ideal for supplementing your existing work. We also welcome applications from experienced professionals interested in part time employment opportunities.

About Trade Master

Trade Master is a subsidiary of Master Electricians, the national organisation representing more than 1,300 electrical contracting businesses across New Zealand.

Established in 2024, Trade Master delivers continuing professional development and industry training for electrical workers, contractors and business leaders.

Trade Master is an approved Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) training provider and delivers the Electrical Competence Programme, helping licensed electrical workers maintain the competence required for practising licences.

Training is delivered face-to-face, online, on-site and across regional locations throughout New Zealand.

About the role

As a Contract Electrical Training Specialist, you will facilitate engaging and compliant training for adult learners and registered electrical workers. Delivery opportunities will vary according to programme schedules, location and learner demand. Some trainers may specialise in particular technical areas, while others may deliver across several programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, professional and technically accurate electrical training
• Facilitate practical and theory-based learning for adult learners
• Assess learner competence and provide constructive feedback where required
• Deliver programmes in accordance with Trade Master's quality standards and approved training materials
• Maintain accurate training, attendance and assessment records
• Represent Trade Master professionally with learners, employers and industry partners

What we are looking for

You will ideally have:

• Current New Zealand electrical registration and practising licence
• Strong practical electrical industry experience
• Sound knowledge of New Zealand electrical legislation, regulations and standards
• The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and confidently
• A professional, reliable and learner-focused approach
• Flexibility to deliver training during the day and occasionally in the evening, with some travel as agreed

Previous teaching experience is welcomed but not essential. If you've mentored apprentices, supervised staff, delivered toolbox talks or regularly coached others on technical requirements, we'd love to hear from you.

Particularly valuable experience

We are especially interested in hearing from applicants who hold or have experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Electrical inspection
• Hazardous areas
• Mains parallel generation
• Medical electrical installations
• Supervision of prescribed electrical work
• Electrical testing and verification
• Electric vehicle charging systems
• Photovoltaic solar systems
• Battery energy storage systems
• Industrial electrical work
• Competence programme delivery

Electrical Inspector registration, additional licence endorsements, NZQA assessment experience, workplace assessor experience or adult education qualifications would also be advantageous but are not essential.
