Automotive Mechanic

We are looking for an energetic Automotive Mechanic to work at our busy Automotive shop in Grey Lynn, Auckland.

The Automotive Mechanic is expected to work a minimum of 30- 35 hours a week with a weekly payroll.

Job Duties:

Mechanical Workshop:
\n 1. Perform oil and filter services.

2. Service and replace spark plugs and filters as required.

3. Perform front and back brake servicing and repairs as well as brake fluid flush.

4. Perform suspension servicing and repairs.

5. Service and repair CV joints and boots.

6. Service and replace steering rack boots.

7. Service and replace inner and outer tyre rod ends.

8. Ensure that all mechanical services undertaken meet a high standard of workmanship as set by the company.

9. Perform WOF checks and carry out repairs.

Tyre Workshop:
\n 1. Drive passenger vehicles onto hoists or jacks in preparation for removing wheels and repairing.

2. Advise customers on types of tyres, recommending suitable alternatives to provide safety and handling in various conditions of road surfaces.

3. Advise on purchasing costs and technical aspects of each tyre to customers.

4. Remove customer passenger vehicle tyres, change tyres or repair tyre punctures and tubes using rattle gun and/or die grinder as required.

5. Check and adjust the wheel balance on passenger vehicles using a wheel-balancing machine.

6. Test-drive serviced vehicles to diagnose problems and ensure the servicing provided has corrected the problem.

7. Check and shelve all incoming new and retread tyres into the store, ensuring stock is safely shelved and stacked into tyre racks and stock supplies recorded.

8. Use downtime to attend to housekeeping within the workshops by cleaning equipment and machinery, maintaining a safe working environment and assisting with improving the overall presentation of the workshop.

9. Use downtime to attend to presentation aspects of the store.

10. Assist with under-body fault diagnosis.

Experience/Qualifications:
\n 1. A National Certificate in Heavy or Light Automotive Engineering or the equivalent NZQA-recognised qualification or three years of relevant experience in a similar role.

2. Strong interpersonal skills.
