Job Description
Add expected salary to your profile for insights
\nThe Cannabis Clinic is embarking on a groundbreaking mission to revolutionise healthcare. We set out to challenge what medicinal cannabis could be in New Zealand: clinically credible, genuinely compassionate, and led by a community of clinicians who are united by a genuine passion for our patients and each other. Having supported more than 65,000 Kiwis on their treatment journey so far, we've built a culture of collaboration because we believe that together, as one cohesive team, we can overcome any obstacle.
\nOur team of doctors and nurse practitioners support each other through complex cases daily, as well as in regular bi-monthly peer meetings, where questions are welcomed and encouraged. We have a genuine investment in your development as a clinician working in a field that's still being defined, and we back that with real support: internal education resources to keep you at the leading edge of cannabis medicine, and mentoring from experienced clinicians.
The Role\nWe're seeking a compassionate medical professional to join a clinical team that's genuinely reshaping what cannabis medicine looks like in New Zealand and provide consultations with patients. With established clinics in Takapuna (Auckland) and Richmond (Nelson), we offer doctors the flexibility to consult in-person, via telemedicine, or a blend of both. This is primarily a clinical role focused on patient care, assessment, and treatment using medicinal cannabis.
Key Responsibilities:\nConsult with clients in a compassionate, professional way and, where appropriate, prescribe treatment that supports their wellbeing.
\nProvide tailored medicinal cannabis treatments that improve the quality of life for our clients.
\nEducate patients on therapeutic use, side effects, and what to expect.
\nTake part in peer review sessions and ongoing professional development
\nRespond to patient and clinic communications in a timely manner
What We're Looking For\nMedical registration in New Zealand (FRNZCGP or non-vocational)
\nStrong clinical assessment and patient management skills
\nInterest in medicinal cannabis (experience preferred but comprehensive training provided)
\nExcellent written and verbal communication abilities
\nThe ability to work independently while genuinely collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
\nCommitment to evidence-based medicine and patient advocacy
\nEmpathy and a non-judgmental approach. Patients in this space have often been dismissed elsewhere, and how you make them feel matters as much as what you prescribe
\nHighly Desirable:
\nExperience in pain management, palliative care, or chronic conditions
\nPrevious work with alternative or complementary medicines
\nComfort with digital systems and modern clinic technology
\nInterest in healthcare technologies, innovation and process improvement
Why Join Us?\nWe know medicinal cannabis still carries some stigma within the profession. Our approach is grounded in clinical evidence, structured protocols, and strong peer support - so you're never practising in isolation.
\nProfessional Growth:
\nBe at the forefront of medicinal cannabis medicine in New Zealand
\nDirect mentorship from experienced cannabis medicine specialists
\nOpportunity to influence treatment protocols and clinic development
\nWork-Life Balance:
\nFlexible rostering, so you shape the hours around your life, not the other way around
\nCompetitive remuneration
\nSupportive, collaborative team environment
\nMaking a Difference:
\nHelp patients access life-changing treatments
\nWork in an emerging field with significant positive outcomes
\nContribute to advancing medicinal cannabis research and practice
\nBe part of changing healthcare for the better
Ideal Candidate\nYou're a doctor who cares about outcomes, not just throughput. You're curious about treatment options outside the conventional playbook, and you enjoy building real relationships with patients rather than rushing them through. Interest in healthcare technology is a bonus, not a requirement.
Application Process\nStart Date: As soon as possible
\nWe're committed to building a diverse and inclusive community of clinicians. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates regardless of background.
