This one helps shape a city.

At Tauranga City Council, we're making decisions today that will determine where communities live, how infrastructure connects growing neighbourhoods, and what opportunities future generations inherit.

As our next Strategic Property Advisor, you'll be at the centre of those decisions.

Te Tūranga | About the role

You'll work on some of Tauranga's most significant property and development opportunities — identifying land needed for growth, enabling major infrastructure projects, leading acquisitions and disposals, and solving complex property challenges that influence the future of the city.

One day you could be advising on land required for critical infrastructure. The next, presenting a politically sensitive property proposal to elected members, negotiating with key stakeholders, or helping unlock development opportunities that benefit the wider community.

This isn't a back-office legal role.

It's a seat at the table where strategy, growth, development and community outcomes intersect.

What makes this role different?

• Influence city-shaping decisions and major strategic property projects.

• Work directly with senior leaders, elected members, tangata whenua, developers and landowners. You will need to be prepared to work in the grey.
\n
• Take ownership of complex property acquisitions, development opportunities and growth-enabling initiatives.
\n

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

We're looking for someone who combines property expertise with commercial thinking, political awareness and the confidence to navigate complexity.

You'll bring:

\n
• At least five years' experience in a property industry such as advisory, valuations, acquisitions, development, infrastructure or an inhouse legal team or law firm.
\n
• A degree qualification. So long as you have residential or commercial property experience your degree can be in Property, Valuation, Legal, Planning, Economics, Development, Finance or another relevant field.
\n
• Knowledge of legislation including the Public Works Act, Resource Management Act, Reserves Act, Local Government Act and Building Act.
\n
• Strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to influence outcomes across a diverse stakeholder environment.
\n

You won't just be advising on property.

You'll help determine where infrastructure is delivered, how and where communities grow, and how Council's property portfolio supports the future of Tauranga.
