Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join our Executive & Professional Lines team in our Auckland office. This role is focused on growing our Financial Lines portfolio through strong broker relationships and underwriting risks across a range of products, with a particular focus on Professional Indemnity, Technology Liability, and Cyber Liability. We are seeking a driven and relationship-focused Underwriter who is eager to deepen their technical expertise, build lasting broker partnerships, and contribute to the continued growth of our portfolio. You will work closely with colleagues across underwriting, claims, legal, and actuarial teams to deliver thoughtful underwriting solutions and exceptional service to our brokers and customers. This is an outstanding opportunity for an Underwriter looking to broaden their Financial Lines experience, expand their market exposure, and take the next step in their career within a highly respected team at a leading global insurer. Duties & Responsibilities: Underwrite new and renewal Financial Lines business, with a particular focus on Professional Indemnity, Technology Liability, and Cyber Liability, in line with BHSI's underwriting strategy and risk appetite. Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and customers to support profitable growth and identify new business opportunities. Review and assess submissions, analysing risk exposures, claims history, financial information, and other relevant data to make sound underwriting decisions. Provide timely quotations and policy documentation within delegated authority levels. Negotiate policy terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers to deliver effective solutions for customers while achieving profitable outcomes. Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, legal, and claims colleagues to support informed decision-making and deliver exceptional service. Contribute to the monitoring and performance of the portfolio, identifying trends and opportunities to enhance underwriting results. Maintain an awareness of market developments, emerging risks, and competitor activity, sharing insights with the broader team. Qualifications, Skills, and Experience: At least 3+ years' underwriting experience within Financial Lines. Working knowledge of Financial Lines products, policy wordings, and underwriting principles. Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess risk and make sound underwriting decisions. Experience building and managing broker relationships, with a customer-focused approach. Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively across teams. Tertiary and/or insurance-related qualifications (e.g. ANZIIF) are desirable.
